What are enzymes?
Enzymes are catalysts made up of protein molecules consisting of long chains of amino acids - not living organisms. A catalyst helps a chemical reaction take place quickly and efficiently. They cause natural reactions to occur faster. Enzymes either start a process or accelerate an existing process.
Digestive Enzymes vs. Systemic Enzymes
Digestive enzymes conduct their actions to digest food. Digestive enzymes occur naturally in the body and their purpose is to aid the food enzymes in digestion. Digestive enzymes include: protease, which breaks down proteins; amylase for breaking down carbohydrates; lipase for the breakdown of fats; and cellulose for fiber.
Do we need to supplement?
Digestive enzymes are destroyed when cooking our food at 118 degrees or more. The same is true for microwaving and processing foods.
We need enzymes to maintain a healthy body. Almost all degenerative diseases stem from a lack of complete digestion and improper elimination of what we ingest into our bodies.
Systemic Enzymes
The correct medical name for the therapeutic use of natural enzymes is Systemic Enzyme Therapy. This means that enzymes flow throughout our body, producing the desired healing effects. Systemic enzymes fight inflammation, fibrosis (scar tissue), and viruses; modulate the immune system; and cleanse the blood.
Systemic Enzymes are the workhorses of the body because they act as catalysts that start and stop chemical reactions throughout the entire body. They deliver nutrients to the cells and tissues for nourishment and regeneration. They initiate and speed up chemical reactions within the cells for energy production and detoxification and provide the energy we use to rebuild muscles, cells, nerves, tissues, bones and glands. They are instrumental in balancing the hormones, regulating the immune system and producing the neurotransmitters that modulate our emotions and enhance mental clarity. Systemic enzymes reduce inflammation, activate healing and relieve pain. They clean up the blood of undigested food particles and pathogens. They also dissolve excess arterial plaque, strengthen blood vessels and prevent blood clots. They dissolve scar tissue, adhesions, and cysts. They regulate metabolism to maintain optimum weight, and they rejuvenate aging muscles, joints and skin.
When we are deficient in any of these enzymes due to depleted reserves and insufficient dietary intake of raw foods, there will not be enough enzymes left after digestion to be used in the body for other functions and health problems occur. More than likely there will not even be enough enzymes available to completely digest our food.
By taking digestive enzyme supplements with our meals and systemic enzymes between meals, many adverse conditions can be reversed and aid our body in its healing process.
Enzyme therapy is an excellent complement to any health program along with a diet rich in live foods, proper exercise and positive attitude.
